Converted from a Mk. IVD, KZ193 was one of three Hawker Hurricane Mk. V tropical tank-buster prototypes undergoing performance trials at Brooklands on August 11, 1943 with one 40mm Bofors cannon under each wing. The 1,700 hp Merlin 32 and a four-bladed propeller were a help, but the massive guns dropped the fighter's top speed to a miserable 286 mph, so the variant was canceled.
